Greetings:
I hope this is the place to plug in these thoughts. In thinking about the future are climate change and peak oil part of the discussion? I am concerned that water supply, potable and irrigation, may have a impact as great as climate change and peak oil.

If the this is the future it would seem it would make global mission much more difficult.

I’m so thankful to the ELCA for reviewing its candidacy requirements and opening the roster to lgbt Lutherans who are called to serve. This will go a long way in opening our Lutheran congregations to include all. A move toward total diversity. We have had members join our RIC congregation because they want diversity for their children.

I lost a good friend due to the sexuality statement passed last fall at the ELCA general assembly and will hurt the ELCA in the long run and create dissension in local ELCA churches. My congregation voted to join CORE.

I just took the survey and emailed some follow-up comments to Dann Taylor. I’d like to add here that I see a great need for the ELCA’s future to include less top-down, centralized flavor; and more recognition that mission is in the hands of every Christian. Thus congregations, synods, and churchwide ministries would do well to think of themselves as servants, coaches, equippers, and resources for the millions of ELCA Lutherans out there. It strikes me, too, that this very LIFT process is built on a centralized model that feels somewhat top-down: the questions are handed down; the responses are uploaded; the unfolding process is not very visible to most people; and the results will most likely be handed down again in some packaged way. How could we learn together in other ways? What if there was a “road trip” where churchwide and synod and even congregational leaders visited people who are already well into the process of “living into the future” and “renewing their ecology” locally?

I am a campus pastor and find most of the questions a bit superficial (and pointed only toward congregations)…since those who are part of congregations can average 40 years and older, how will you gather the thoughts of the 19-29 year old population? It would also be great to explore deeper questions of community, Christ and culture – (like, how do you feel about the future of the ELCA?) … Great start.
